The Zeez Racing Combo is a F7 flight control and 4x60A BLHeli_32 combo that includes 4 plug and play discrete, addressable LED strips. It is in the standard 30.5mm mount size meaning it will fit 5 to 8 inch quadcopters. It can be considered a premium set based on the retail price of just over $100 but the cleverness in design and execution in quality make this stand out for me. Zeez is a relatively new company in the FPV scene based out of Italy that looks to be made up of a group of racing and freestyle pilots. At this stage they have a race frame available plus an ambitious flight control-ESC combo which I'm reviewing here. Individual components are also available: Design has been completed in Italy by this team based on their needs. We can see immediately that this bottom up design has made for a lot clever tricks to make building and setup cleaner and more efficient with a heap of features. Before we go into that let's look at the core specs and discuss the benefits to the average punter:
F7 is the fastest processor available at present but more importantly has native UART inversion which essentially means you don't need a special connection for SBUS (more useful than you think). The ability of the FC to take up to 8s is of little consequence since the ESC only goes up to 6s. 128MB blackbox flash leaves plenty of room for blackbox tuning. LC filter on the vtx 5v supply is nice to minimise video noise. The ESC has a fairly substantial 60A per channel (90a burst) meaning it can cope with up to 240A at a time (360A burst). All this means is that your ESC will not be the weak link in the drive train, that's for sure! BLHeli_32 is the expectation for a mid-premium ESC and allows for native bidirectional DSHOT and RPM filtering plus more. LEDS!!! Perhaps the first thing you notice about this combo from the product pics is the cool LEDs and in real life they are impressive. The designers have gone to some effort to include 4 addressable LED plugs in each corner of the LED. Into the plug micro JST leads that then connect to 4 compact low profile LED strips. Since this are addressable LEDs you have complete control over colours and patterns which is superior to the LEDs which are inline with the motor wire. Other key features Below are the other features that are more based on clever design rather than straight specs that may appeal to you
What to use this on? Make no mistake, this is a premium combo at a price tag of just over $100 and will not go into a budget build. Personally I think it would be best suited to a larger long range build where the big ESC and heatsink will have more overhead to run something beefy like a 2806.5 motor. Plus is will have plenty of spare UARTs for peripherals like GPS and full telemetry receivers. Full addressable LEDs for all four corners are a classy touch if you are into the bling. Build and Performance to come I think a quality combo like this deserves a decent build and I will start getting the parts I need for a 6 or 7 inch long ranger. My thought is this would be overkill on a 5 inch racer especially with the trend there moving to lighter, more stripped back 20mm stacks. I will update this article with the build and performance once I have these parts and will link here.
