Banggood have recently listed a new budget goggle strap that offers a nice wide 1.5 inch (38mm) band that is suprisingly well made and comfy yet only costs $8. Read on for the full review Update 5 Jan 2021: Originally this strap was listed at $5 but has gone up to $8 apparently due to shipping costs? Apologies if some of my notes still mention the $5 price point. Use code BGAFF10OFF to get the price down a little. For some weird reason there has always been some sort of mystery around premium goggle straps and people have not flinched when dropping $15-$25 on a glorified piece of elastic that holds your goggles to your head. Don't get me wrong, they massively improve comfort but I just don't see where they are worth that kind of money. Exceptions to this are the iflight DJI goggle straps I recently reviewed here which include a new buckle and the Pyrodrone straps which are more fairly priced at $6 but largely limited to the United States. Now there is a new option that ships internationally via Banggood and they are only $8. Like the other 'premium' options they have a 1 inch (25mm) mounting strap that tapers out to 1.5 inches (38mm) to decrease pressure on your head while moving around less. Terrible name, great product: Is this a copy of the Ethix Strap? Right, let's address the elephant in the room - yes they are the same colours as the Ethix V2 and V3 straps but they ARE NOT a clone. They are in fact made by the same people that make the excellent Skyzone straps as seen on the SKY03O goggles onwards. I've been using these for the past year (my SKY03O review is here) so you can take it from me that they wear well. See below for the direct comparison to the skyzone straps from my own goggles. Installation These have a fixed loop for attachment so can't recommend for DJI goggles - see my IFlight DJI goggle strap review for that. However, any analogue goggle set can easily use these straps as the 25mm mounting width is the unofficial industry standard. I had them fitted to my skyzone goggles inless that 2 minutes with no disassembly (see below). Goggles made by fatshark and other goggle manufacturers are not much more difficult as they are made to have removable straps. How well do they fit? As mentioned above I've been using an identical strap for the past year and it's been excellent - I would never go back to a narrow strap again. The wider strap spreads the tension of a tight strap over a larger area and so less pressure on your head, especially for those that like to run a tight strap like me. The material has a very nice elasticity and its does not slide around on your head. As you can see there there is space for those that run strap-mounted batteries, the 2 x 18650 cell case in particular fits very well. The tension adjustment buckle is very sturdy and doesn't slip when you set your tension,
Durability Based on my experience with the Skyzone SKY03O goggles which appear to have an identical strap, I would expect these to last very well. I have no apparent wear on my strap after a year and any loss in elastic tension I've had over the time has not affected operation or hold. Quality is really good - see more pics below. Conclusion Unless you already have a fat battery strap or DJI goggles this $8 38mm goggle strap from Banggood is a no brainer purchase. Quality is waaaay better than you would expect from $8 and the colour options are good to either stand out in a nice green or be a bit more understated with the tan. Hopefully we see these wide straps becoming more commonplace directly from manufacturers (like skyzone have done) but until then, this is a must-buy for $8 Thanks for reading, if you found this article useful please feel free to like or share, the facebook links below directly link/like this article.
