This little $8 adapter allow you to use crossfire or any other JR module on your x-lite
Recently I've dipped my toe into long range flight with a new 7" build as documented here. As part of this build I've chosen to use the crossfire micro transmitter which is generally regarded as the most reliable and lowest maintenance long range control ling for quadcopters and other aricraft. Since I use a taranis x-lite (reviewed here) the JR-port sized crossfire module does not fit natively which was a conscious decision from the FRSKY partially for size but probably more because they now directly compete with crossfire using their R9m slim module (which fits natively). The good news is that since the X-lite uses the open TX operating system it supports it crossfire electronically.

Here's the actual unit
To solve this issue I purchased a JR Module adapter from Banggood that included a basic skeletal 3d printed bracket and the harness needed to connect the xfire module to the x-lite. It looks very basic in the picture and to confirm, it looks really basic in real life too. The good news though is that it works well, nothing fancy but it does allow you to use the crossfire micro (or fullsize or light) on the xlite with a secure physical and elextrical connection. The 3d print is simple and very lightweight but the fixed pins aligned well with my crossfire unit.
On the other end I first had to plug in the harness and then slide the adptor on which is a bit of the pain when regularly removing (which I do for transport). There was a very simple solution here and that was to use my $3 E6000 glue and glue the female part of the harness to the adapter. I needed to leave about 0.5mm gap between where the harness lined up to the adapter as you'll see in the images but this fix is suprisingly secure and robust - I've slid the unit in blind about 20 times now with no damage to any of the pins.

Front and centre are the pins I glued - the other pins to the left came pre-glued
There are of course 3d print options available like this one on thingiverse but you'll also need to source and buy a harness and fix it altogether. What drew me to the unit I've review here is the low cost and fact that everything I need comes in one package. More importantly it works like it's meant to. You will need to be very careful with aligning pins but if you can manage that, this is a low cost and simple solution.

This unit is available exclusively from Banggood so far as I can tell. Please comment if you know any ready made alternatives available worldwide and I'll link here too.
