DumboRC UPGRADE Handwheel install and Review: A MUST HAVE UPGRADE for your DumboRC radio

DumboRC make (IMO) the best budget radios you can get with the original X6 series (covered here) and the new X6PM-350 (reviewed here). One weakness however on both models they included a horrible plasticky steering wheel which felt a bit unpleasant in hand. Good thing then that the have released a low cost foam steering wheel upgrade which I have reviewed here and also give feedback on which other models it fits.

As mentioned above the steering wheel on all the DumboRC radios I've reviewed feel cheap because of the plastic grip. It's a shame they didn't use foam from the outset because it's not like this is an expensive upgrade - even stock WLToys remotes use foam and feel better for it. The newly released DumboRC Controller Metal Handwheel directly addresses this however and at a cost of under $10 it won't break the bank. They are available in black or titanium grey and I went with the latter. I'll be really clear that this is not a metal wheel, it is still moulded plastic so will be recommending to Banggood that they change the description. Anyway, included in the pack is the plastic wheel with foam outer, 2 adaptor pieces shaped like vented brake discs, stick on "calipers" if you like that look, a hex screw for fitting and a DumboRC domed decal to cover over the screw after installation: ​

Fittment to DumboRC remotes

Fittment to either the DumboRC X6 or the newer X6PM-350 is really simple, just follow the steps below:

Firstly pry off the decal in the middle of the wheel for the X6 or the plastic cover for the X6PM-350:

This will expose the screw which you will need to remove

Next you'll need to chose the adaptor to suit the radio, which in the case of the DumboRC radios is the one above. Fit this disk braked shaped adapter to the radio then the new wheel to the adaptor

Screw on with the included 2mm hex drive screw, add the included domed decal and you are done.

Job done for the DumboRC X6PM-350 compared to stock on the left. Feels much better and looks really cool.

And here it is for the DumboRC X6 with the stock on the left. Again a much better feel and look how it makes it appear much more premium

To me this should have been included from stock but it least it is a nice bolt on option that fits well, is not expensive and is readily available so it's the next best thing. Since it is not included from stock this is definitely an upgrade I recommend.

How about fitment for other radios?

It doesn't fit the standard HBX remote as is used for the 16889a pro and 901a

It doesn't fit the new WLToys remote as used on the 284010 and other new models

It doesn't fit the old WLToys remote as used on the 144010, 124019 and related cars

It DOES fit the Flysky FS-GT5 which doesn't really benefit since that already has a foam wheel but is a big upgrade for the FS-G7P since that has a yucky plastic wheel

I can also confirm it does fit all of the Radiolink radios such as the Radiolink RC6GS I reviewed here although not a big benefit since this already had a foam wheel.

Summary

The ​DumboRC Controller Metal Handwheel is not really metal but is an upgrade for the budget DumboRC radios that I highly recommend as it makes them feel much better in the hand than the stock plastic wheels. They also fit a number of other models including those from Flysky and Radiolink but no RTR remotes that I have found yet.
