WhicH LC Racing parts fit the 144001 124018 124019? The full COMPATIBILITY List

10/6/2021

As we all know by now the WL Toys 144001 (and 124018 / 124019 by extension) is a budget copy of LC Racing EMB-1 that utilises cheaper materials and electrical components to make it a lower cost offering. LC Racing spares for the EMB series are surprisingly cheap - often cheaper than the WL toys parts. In the list below I've made it clear which parts are a direct fit and which parts will fit with a little modification.

Link below are to the AliExpress store that I trust - they have been running successfully for over 7 years and will ship worldwide. You may of course have other options locally like Troy Remy in Canada (find him in the QuadifyRC Group), Warren RC in USA, RCMart out of Hong Kong and direct from LC Racing themselves.

Axles are what I'm hoping to see here soon. I'd love to ditch the 3mm/M3 shafts for 4mm/M4 and I really would like to avoid axle extenders. I'm pretty new to the 124019 crowd, so maybe I'm missing something that is already available. I absolutely love this site. It's been very helpful so far. Thank you for all the hard work.

I wish there were some axle extenders that did the job properly. I've tried a few and you can only get them kinda half working and even that required a lot spit and glue. Sigh.

Axles are a bit of a weak point it seems, I've bent so many. I wish I knew of a decent way to straighten them, but it's beyond me.

I found some 3 to 4mm conversion parts for the WLtoys A959, but most of the reviews say that they were better off with the original 3mm parts for durability even. I've got some 1/16 parts for a Hosim Q903 that lost a battle with a Cadillac Escalade that I may get around to trying eventually. The axles on it are 4mm and some of quite a few parts that survived being run over. If I have any luck I'll follow up.

Hi Michael, thanks for the feedback. A few have been working on this but the M3 shafts seem to be easier. The LC racing parts should be a direct drop in, I just need to confirm.

Awesome! I appreciate the response. If I remember correctly, there are a couple of videos on YouTube that compare the 2 buggies, but I'm not sure how detailed they are. Just a heads up, the Phat Bodies Zero just dropped today on the Phat Bodies site. It's a rally car body for the 124019, 124018, and LC Racing EMB 12B1. 😎

I went ahead and got a Hammer body to kind of practice on first. It will be my first RC body paint job. I'll get the Zero body once Warren RC has it in stock. That's where I got the Hammer body from. I live in the US, shipping took 3 days, and it was about $23 USD.

Hi,
These are my observations from fitting LC Racing EMB-1 CVDs to a WLToys 144001.
Compared to an original WLToys 144001 CVD:

1. The driveshaft length, from CV joint to dogbone end, is 1mm longer. This is an improvement because it reduces the possibility of the CVD dogbone end coming out of the differential output cup.

2. At the other end of the CVD, the shaft length through the hub bearings to the hex location pin hole is 0.3mm longer.
This results in more axial freeplay through the bearings, so there is more wheel slop to the hub if you are fitting the CVD to a WLToys hub.
There will also be a similar amount of freeplay if you are fitting the CVD to an LC Racing hub which has had a WLToys CVD fitted previouly, because the LC Racing hub's bearing outer crush sleeves would have already collapsed to the extent to suit the WLToys CVD shaft length. The crush of the bearing sleeves is not reversable, so the possible fixes are fit new crush sleeves or fit a spacer shim.
This problem is avoided if the CVD is being fitted to an LC Racing hub which has not previously been fitted with a WLToys CVD, because the crush sleeves should work as intended to avoid axial freeplay.

Hi Quadifyrc,

Do the EMB-1 diff assemblies directly fit into the 144001 axle housing? I am considering them as a better alternative to the so-called upgrade diff.
Does the EMB-1 diff's ring gear (crown wheel) have the same number of teeth as the144001's, and correctly mesh to the pinion gear?
As is well known, the original diff is prone to stripping the spider and side gears, even on stock brushed motors, as per mine. I have fitted upgrade diffs which so far have proven more durable (my own theory is that the original diff's plastic case flexes under load, thus exascerbating the insufficent meshing of the spider and side gears, whereas the upgrade diff case is metal and therefore more rigid). However, the upgrade diff has higher parts clearances, resulting in the output cups being very sloppy in the case. Also, the upgrade diff's output cups have become quite worn by the dogbones, so these still appear to be rather soft metal.

Thanks

Hi Mike. Unfortunately the diffs are very different. different number of teeth and I think pitch as well. My recommendation is to use the stock diffs and shim like they have done in the 124019 I reviewed. Then pack with grease. Outside of the CVDs and dogbones the drive components and very different.

Hi Quadifyrc, Thank you for your prompt reply. It is terrific to find out this information before buying the parts.
As far as the diff shims you mentioned, is it possible to buy these to retrofit existing diffs? What dimensions are they?
If I was to buy new diffs, I am wondering how to ensure that shims would be included? Order a 124019 diff?

QuadifyRC
24/6/2021 02:24:50 pm

Hi Mike

Check on this page to see where to shim https://www.quadifyrc.com/rccarreviews/wl-toys-124019-review-all-of-144001-improvements-that-no-one-has-mentioned

You'll want shims with a 2mm hole as thin as you can get - around 0.1mm.

It's impossible to know if any new diffs will be shimmed sorry :(

I have to say, owning three cars with these diffs in use 144001, 124018, 124019. I havent had any problem with the diffs at all, even bashing fairly hard on 3s they all seem fine. The only issue is the outcups that wear eventually, but they are so easy and cheap to replace I don't see an issue.

Replacing the cups is easy? What about the pesky 2 MM flat head screws?! In most cases, they need a lot of heat to loosen too much thread lock.

RCFREAK
25/6/2021 07:27:55 pm

Not had a problem with any of them and I've changed multiple. Maybe a bit more time in the gym Kodak, or less time spent trying to convince everyone on rc forums that these cars aren't hobby grade, either one should improve your chances.

Can you confirm that the diffs from the 144001, 124018 and 124019 are the same as the 12428? I have recently seen a diff that uses a metal housing is available for the newest buggies, but it does not include the 12428 in its description. I don't know if that is an oversight or if it will NOT work in the 12428 and its siblings 12427, 12423 and 12429. Thanks.

I don't know sorry, I only had a 12428 for a brief period but had too many issues so moved on. What I do know is that I have tried 2 sets of different upgrade diff parts for the 144001 and the do not fit. From the review comments on BG it says they fit the 12428 instead but I cannot confirm

One. BIIIIGGGGG upgrade you are missing is the CVD shafts. They are so much stronger than the stock shafts on WLToys. I have a bunch in stock! They do not bend very easily.

1st off man this Quadify page is awesome so much knowledge and can’t wait to get more.. I’ve been holding off but wanted the buggy so bad but finally got the 124017 on pre order and love the blue!
I have so many questions lol.. but I do want to ask for these Cvd shafts from Troy . I don’t do Facebook much but I’ll see now ill probably have to join the group. But if you can send me a link to page or email me?
If they will be a direct fit for the 124017 which should be same car I’d like to get a full set for front and rear..
mikemike662@icloud.com..
And again this site is so helpful to go ahead and get some body stuff before sells out so it’s waiting when car arrives.. can’t wait to see what you do with your new 124017.
My main question for you my man is I know u don’t k ow what size the Motor holes are yet..but I want to run mine on 4s. Mainly bc all my batteries are that or 2s and have series plugs. If u need to wait to tell me for sure after you get yours that’s fine. But I’m ok replacing the esc even tho it looks like the same 60a that’s 4s capable by wtvr brand that is I’ve looked it up and same blue too.
But what motor could I run bc stock prolly won’t work.
Hell you can email me too or if ever have time to chat I’d love to hear all the goods..
Been using the ZD racing drift car 1/16 it’s a blast lol while I wait ..
I also have a tricked out traxxas maxx 4s ..
Wow this is long... sorry everyone. SO EXCITED!

Cheers Michael! The 124017 at that price looks like a great choice. facebook.com/quadifyrc is the group page and we have a lot of good technical discussion there. If you join Troy will be able to confirm the right part for you.

Glad to hear you are so in to it! If you want 4s I'd be looking for a low kV 2845 motor like this https://bit.ly/3jd4CRF

Thanks Guys!
Appreciate it!
Been busy with the corally radix4s 1/8 buggy I just got .. lol
Hope the banggood car comes soon tho..
And ok so the 2800kv was selected.. around that?
And that motor is rated for that power?
Bc I was looking at the Turnigy motors and have motors rated for 4s.. but it was like a
2845/1950 or 1980kv and then 2845/3650
Which one of those would you think?
Bc i have a super high capacity battery.. and prolly can make it fit.. thanks let me know and yes need to join the group soon..
And also was that a phat hammer body on the one guys car? I got one from Steve at warren RC and man looks soooo small.. ordered a sc truck too.. and by the way he is amazing man, super nice and helpful so shit out to warren RC

Michael C
26/7/2021 06:59:05 pm

Ok wow typo!
Shout out to warren RC
And hey Troy I got your reply too just been super busy.. but thank you so much and I saved you in my contacts I will be in touch.. and adding to the group..
but yes 1980kv and 3650kv
Do you think these would fot seems same can or by 1mm and same size shaft ..
just wasn’t sure about which kv
And then said also make sure
To get a motor mount with it ? Just one for the brushed model should be the same or no? Hard to say yet.. but feel just new color and brushless and all else the same..
and hey! Yea let it be known tho had to order again bc none of the parts at warren come with any screws so had to get those .. but of your getting stuff get the screw kit..
much love RC people

Hello.
Would you recommend those rear shocks for my 124018 if I have the stock engine?
Since it weighs so much, I want to mount something much harder on it so that it supports the weight better, since in almost all the jumps it ends up touching the chassis on the ground.

If you are otherwise happy with the shocks I'd stick with them and get a 60wt oil but buy the heavier springs listed above.

If I will do that, I will buy the hardest springs back, thank you very much.
The bodywork of the EMB-DT, is it worth the 124018?
Because I have broken a piece of plastic from the back and in lc racing they sell it loose, but in wltoys if or if the complete body is going.

If I were to replace the plastic upper deck, it would be aluminum. I think CF is over- rated. If the “metal” chassis is too thin and tends to flex, an aluminum upper plate would stiffen it a great deal.

Alex
23/8/2021 06:17:09 pm

is there any aluminum alternative to that part without the "deepening" where the default ESC sits? I'm trying to do a build, where the lipo sits on the top deck, so i don't need this deepening. (sorry for my english, i'm no native speaker :)

Kodak_jack
24/8/2021 02:06:02 am

If you want to mount the battery on top of the upper deck, do you have an alternative body that will take the extra height? The truggy body sits higher or maybe the short course body will work, but the mounts and shock mounts will need to go with whatever you decide on. It’s not going to be a simple one for one swap.

Alex

yeah, i got Atak from phat bodies, which is taller than the standard body. i attach it with Velcro. There should be enough space for the lipo, but i don't like the "gap" on the top deck

Reply

I think I’ve seen a three piece upper deck in aluminum. The middle section can sit lower than the front and rear pieces. I don’t have one and am only going by what I remember seeing. Even if you went that way, the middle would only be lower by the thickness of the aluminum unless you used spacers to lower it even more. Then, the limiting factor would be the driveshaft. Using Velcro eliminates losing pins. Nice.

Members of an LC Racing forum have been looking for better alternatives for EMB-1 parts such as stronger CVDs, and suspension and steering joints with less clearance, to replace the very same parts that WLToys owners are fitting as upgrades. How ironic!

I asked on another thread about fitting LC Racing EMB-1 steering and suspension turnbuckle and ball joint sets to a WLToys 144001, but got no response, so I have done it myself.

The parts can be fitted, but it might pay to be aware of differences:

1. Compared to the WLToys 144001 originals, the pivot ball diameter is smaller (4.3mm vs 4.9mm of the WLToys), which means that the LC Racing ball joint ends will not fit onto WLToys ball studs.

2. Therefore an LC Racing L6031 BALL STUD SET is needed.
One set contains enough parts to replace all WLToys ball studs except for the steering servo arm link (smaller size again).

3. Two sets of LC Racing L6019 TURNBUCKLE & BALL JOINT SET are needed because one set contains enough for one side of the car only. It does not include the steering servo arm link.

3. The threads of the turnbuckle links are the opposite to the WLToys parts. This means that if you are used to the directions to rotate the links to shorten or lengthen them, you will find that these are different.
For example, the shorter end of the turnbuckle link (relative to the adjustment hole) is a Right Hand thread, whereas on the WLToys turnbuckle links, the longer end is the Right Hand thread.
Personally, I find the LC Racing links easier to remember: shoRt = RH thread, Long = LH thread.

4. When assembling the ball joint ends onto the turnbuckles, it pays to lubricate them beforehand. The turnbuckles have to cut threads in the ball joint ends which are a tight fit. It also helps for future adjustments.

After all of that, are you convinced it’s a necessary thing to do? Bearings are a tad bigger, but is it worth jumping through so many hoops?
Fir those dealing with slop/ play, one solution that is available is ordering the same ID and OD bearing, but with a width that is slightly , usually 0.5 MM, wider. I did that on my 124018 and it works great.

Reply
MIKE S
7/10/2021 12:46:26 pm

Necessary? probably not. However, when I have had parts fail, I usually try to improve on them. As they say, you can't repeat the same thing and expect a different result.

The other question is want. Seeing sloppy steering and wobbly wheels bugs me! From my career as a (retired) Motor Mechanic in vehicle development/engineering, these characteristics are faults.

As far as wheel bearings, it is hard to beat the concept of crush sleeves that adjust to suit the individual assembly, which the LC Racing hubs and bearings provide. Also, my original WLToys wheel bearings had quite a lot clearance in them, and the LC Racing bearings are an improvement.

0.5mm wider bearings sound like too coarse an adjustment, and could overload the bearings from preload. Wouldn't shims that can give an adjustment range a fraction of that be better?

As far as steering and suspension links, I am hoping that the LC Racing ball joint ends are less prone to popping off. Time will tell!

Having switched to the LC Racing 4.3mm ball studs, if these ball joint ends prove unsatisfactory then the next step will be to try the RPM brand ball joint ends, which fit these ball studs, that are favoured by at least some members on an LC Racing forum.

Hi, I know this is a bit off topic but would you happen to know if the LC racing EMB differentials fit the Losi Mini 8ight? Has anyone converted this to a Rally car. I am looking to use Standard 1/10 scale Tamiya Rally bodies. Basically making it into a LC Racing PTG2 which is 3x times more expensive.

Great write-up Quad (as always!)!

I was wondering, how good are the EMB-SC tires? Do they grip well, how hard are they, how long do they last, ect. and how do they stack up against the Remos?

So, I have been reading your what LC parts to put on WL toys cars, and I decided to get a 1/10 LC Racing buggy over an Xray... now I need to pick the spare parts to order with it as parts seem difficult to buy in NZ.

What spares would you buy if ordering a couple of extra parts to save down time?

I reccomend not buying the 104001 if you plan on using it offroad (too delicate).

Hey guys! Awesome work Quad. I really appreciate your write downs. Question: Is there any update for the 3mm to 4mm axle cup thing? I’d really love to try those extensions :):):) And do you know if 144001 also fits rear cups to the front?? Greetings from Germany

So to clarify do the lc racing dogbones and cvd fit the 124017? Has no one came out with a way to get a little beefier m4 sizes on the ends?

No luck with M4 but the LC racing parts are made from better metal.

Thanks for your hard work and wealth of knowledge. I've been searching for sealed wheel bearings for the 124017 and am not finding anything, any suggestions? For reference the bearings size is 4x7x1.8mm

Refer to this article, especially the Hubs, Bearings and Hub Carrier section. There are links to parts, including alternative sources, at the bottom of it:

https://www.quadifyrc.com/rccarreviews/project-wlcracing-124018-stage-1-suspension-and-steering-upgrades

I went with the plastic front/rear hubs (LC Racing L6007 STEERING BLOCK, C-HUB & UPRIGHT SET):

https://shop.lcracing.net/products/l6007?_pos=6&_sid=610a3767a&_ss=r

and the LC Racing bearings (LC Racing
L6123 BALL BEARINGS SET 4X8X3(11pcs)):

https://shop.lcracing.net/products/l6123?_pos=1&_sid=12c996618&_ss=r

I got the aluminium front hubs (LC Racing
L6083 STEERING BLOCK ALU) to use instead of the included plastic ones with the L6007 set above, as mentioned in the article:

https://shop.lcracing.net/products/l6083?_pos=1&_sid=5cd9e66ba&_ss=r

I also changed to the LC Racing 12mm hexes (LC Racing
L6143 12mm WHEEL HEX SET ALU):

https://shop.lcracing.net/products/l6143?_pos=1&_sid=0f147ef8f&_ss=r

I have since fitted LC Racing front CVDs which meant that I needed new bearing crush sleeves because of the differences to the WLToys CVDs made the wheel bearings a loose fit. The crush sleeves (LC Racing L6211 BUSHING FOR ALU KNUCKLES) can only adjust in one direction; they can't be uncrushed, so need to be replaced. Note that a set are already in the LC Racing hubs when you buy them, but it might be handy to have a spare set:

Thank you so much for such an informative response.. I'm new and still learning and I'm getting there. If it wasn't due the MVPs like you helping out noobs like me, I would've lost interest very early into the journey that is rc cars. Thank you again, I hope you know how much your help means to me.

These are bearings that are 2.5 MM wide:

What's important is to have the bearing number so you can search by that if a link stops working.
If there is enough slop that changing bearings doesn't take care of it all, there are thin washers/ spacers that can help:
