If you are looking for a set of high grip on-road wheels and tyres for your 1/10 scale Short Course truck then these highly versatile Street Fighters are a great option to fit 12mm, 14mm and 17mm hex drives
1/10 scale short course trucks are an excellent format for bashing about with. In general they have a good mix of performance on and off-road and the large size means the handling is more life-like. Arrma, Traxxas and many of the racing manufacturers have great offerings here. In general the bashing options have pretty disappointing tyres from stock but none moreso that the SG Pincone 1002s I reviewed recently here. These Streetfighter 1/10 scale Short Course Truck (SCT) wheels I've found recently offer a great alternative and fit practically any car in this scale. Read on for more.
In this article:
These directional tyres come fitted to the rim with a foam inner to help retain the shape of the tyres when under stress. Rims are completely removable and attach to the hubs with 6 x M2.5 hex drive screws. There are 3 sets of hub sizes each of the 4 wheels i.e. 12 in total: a set of 4 x 12mm hubs, a set of 4 x 14mm hubs and a set of 4 x 17mm hubs.
First of all I tried these without gluing and the tyres came straight off the rim. Make sure you don't make my mistake - glue them on properly and don't be hasty like me! With that out of the way I really like how they grip. Night and day for my SG Pincone 1002s but anything would have been an improvement over them. With all the extra grip though you may need to be wary of traction roll on concrete or tar seal surfaces and you can manage this with lower ride height and stiff springs dampening but depends on your specific car.
For me the soft tyre compound means they grip surprisingly well offroad too, again an improvement over stock for me but obviously not as good as road surfaces which they are designed for. Wear will likely be fairly quick due to the soft compound but these are trade offs that we have to make for improved grip.
All in all this wheels and tyre set ticks an awful lot of boxes - they grip well, look fantastic, fit practically anything and are fairly priced. The only real downside I see at present is that they are not glued from the supplied but this is easily fixed with a tube of glue that costs less than a dollar. For this reason I'll rate them 4 stars - would have given them 4.5 or 5 if an offroad tread pattern was available too.
